Sr. Systems Engineer at Blue Origin
MSC in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Bath
BS in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from the University of Washington
Place of Birth:
Seattle Washington, USA
How did you get into space:
I got interested in space through my father, who is a computer scientist and big space enthusiast, and through my local library.
How did sports help you land in space:
As a junior in high school, I made the decision to go to community college because I thought it would help me focus on football (soccer), instead it helped prepare me for the rigorous engineering program at the University of Washington.
Soccer Career/Background:
As a kid, I wanted to play football (soccer) in the world cup and be an aerospace engineer, but football took a back seat as I became more interested in engineering. However, because I love the beautiful game, I have continued to play pick-up and club football as my schedule allows.
Favorite Soccer Team:
West Bromwich Albion, the club of the “Three Degrees”
What do you like best about Space United:
Being able to go to the football pitch after work and play competitive football, with a good group of guys. A good way to de-stress.
Why do you think Earth needs Space Exploration:
Earth needs space exploration because it helps us learn about the world we live in and it pushes the boundaries of science and technology, enriching our lives and helping us take care of the Earth. Without space exploration, there would be no GPS and no detailed weather mapping.
Any words of advice for young students wanting to get into space exploration:
Don’t be afraid to try new things, it will help you grow professionally and teach you more about who you are and what work you find meaningful. Also, don’t forget to give honor to the one who gave you the brain to do engineering and the legs to kick a football. Acknowledge him in all you do and he’ll make your path straight.
